A daily acceptable noise dose under the New Zealand Health and Safety Regulations 1984 is <85 dB LAeq,8h.
Further studies were undertaken to look at the total noise dose experienced by different individuals over a 7day period.
In terms of the Health and Safety in Employment regulations, if such exposures were being experienced in the workplace (as they would be for those working in the nightclubs), the maximum allowable noise dose would be reached in as little as 15 minutes.
It can be seen that the exposure time drops from 15 minutes for those working in quiet environments to 0 minutes for those that reach (or indeed exceed) their daily workplace maximum allowable noise dose.
